Seroquel

Approved by the Food and Drugs Administration in 1997, Seroquel is an oral anti-psychotic drug used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Seroquel is manufactured by the drugs giant, Zeneca. Effective in the treatment of all schizophrenia symptoms, Seroquel appeared to have the standard side effects often associated with this type of drug, with no other major side effects to worry about. It was classed as a new wonder pill for the treatment of this disorder due to its effectiveness and its minimal side effects.

However, the bubble finally burst earlier this year when a number of medical institutions claimed that Seroquel was one of six anti-psychotic drugs that actually promoted diabetes, high cholesterol levels, and obesity. The institutions that made the claims, which were in the medical journal ‘Diabetes Care’, were the American Diabetes Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists .

The report warned that users of Seroquel should be extra vigilant and keep an eye out for any signs of diabetes development/ The report also warned physicians to carry out screenings on potential Seroquel patients to ensure there was no family history of diabetes, obesity or high cholesterol. The warnings of this increased risk of various other ailments for Seroquel patients led to the FDA ordering Zeneca to revise the labelling and packaging of Seroquel to ensure that warnings were prominently displayed with regards to these links. This has already been done on the Japanese labelling of Seroquel, but has not yet been carried out in the United States.

Patients that are taking Seroquel as a regular treatment at the moment are advised not to simply stop taking it, but to contact their doctor with a view to changing over to an alternative medication. Patients are also advised to remain vigilant and look out for signs of diabetes, which include increased thirst, weight gain, and increased urination. Any signs of these effects should be immediately reported to a doctor so that tests can be carried out as soon as possible.

Those that have already suffered as a result of taking Seroquel may be entitled to compensation from the manufacturer of the drug, Zeneca. Drug litigation lawyers are able to help affected patients put together a sound case with a view to making a claim, and the settlement received can cover medical expenses resulting from problems caused by Seroquel, as well as pain and suffering of patients that have experienced harm or injury from this drug.

As many Seroquel lawyers offer s free initial consultation, those that are unsure as to whether they have grounds to claim compensation are also advised to seek assistance. An experienced drugs litigation lawyer will know the legalities surrounding such cases, and by the information you provide will be able to determine whether you have a sound case. If you have any medical evidence or documentation relating to any effects you may have experienced that could be linked to Seroquel, you should take this with you when you see a lawyer, as this can help to speed up the process and will give your lawyer a better idea of your chances of success.

When you visit a Seroquel lawyer, you can address any questions or concerns you may have about taking legal action against Zeneca. Your lawyer will also be able to advise on the best course of action to take to maximise your chances of a successful claim, and will do all he or she can to get you the highest amount of compensation possible.
