Related Health Problems Caused By The Drug:

Studies carried out on Redux after it had been approved indicated that the drug was responsible for a number of heart problems, and increased the risk of cardiac problems in patients. One such study from the Mayo Clinic, which showed evidence of heart valve problems in some Redux patients, finally resulted in Redux being withdrawn from the US market in September 1997.

Following this a range of other heart related problems and diseases became apparent, some of them less obvious because of the latency period involved. Heart disease and other cardiac issues continue to come to light, even though the drug had been withdrawn from the market and patients had stopped its use. Studies had shown that the use of Redux for longer than a three month period dramatically increased the risks of contracting primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH), a potentially deadly disorder.

American Home Products Corporation failed to issue any adequate warnings to patients on the packaging and marketing of Redux, and as such many people took the drug unaware of the possible repercussions. A nationwide class action settlement filed against the manufacturer of the drug, American Home Products Corporation, was approved in January 2002. In addition to the class action lawsuit against American Home Products Corporation, many individual lawsuits were filed – and are still being filed, as the effects of the drug surface.

To this day, many of the patients that took Redux on a long term basis (over three months) are still discovering various side effects caused by the drug. Those that took the drug are advised to seek medical advice. Anyone that feels that they have been affected by Redux should also contact a drugs litigation lawyer to see whether they have grounds for compensation.
