Paxil

Paxil is an anti-depressant that was approved in the US in 1992. As the figures of depression sufferers began to increase sales of Paxil and similar drugs also soared. However, it has been claimed that Paxil can cause severe dependency and can result in life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. In 2003 the Food and Drugs Administration issues a warning about the effects of Paxil, which sparked fresh controversy on an already controversial drug.

Related Health Problems Caused By The Drug:

In 2003 warnings were issued to British doctors to avoid prescribing the drug to children due to an increased risk of suicidal tendencies. British regulators stated that: "it has become clear that the benefits (of Paxil) in children for the treatment of depressive illness do not outweigh these risks." This was followed by a similar warning in America by the FDA nine days later.

The withdrawal effects of Paxil have been described as follows: “jolting electric ‘zaps,’ dizziness, light headedness, crying spells, vertigo, coordination problems, gait disturbances, sweating, extreme nausea, vomiting, high fever, abdominal discomfort, flu symptoms, anorexia, diarrhoea, agitation, tremulousness, irritability, aggression, sleep disturbance, nightmares, tremor, confusion, memory and concentration difficulties, lethargy, malaise, weakness and general fatigue.”

Many parents, lawyers and researchers have been lobbying to get Paxil banned from the drugs market. New York City recently filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the drug, GlaxoSmithKline, for "anticompetitive, fraudulent, and inequitable conduct" . Already over five thousand Paxil lawsuits have been filed in the Unites States, and a further 2500 in Britain. As the controversy over this anti-depressant drug and its potentially deadly effects continues, those that oppose the drug continue to lobby for its withdrawal from the market, and those affected by Paxil continue to seek legal assistance for compensation.

Many claim that the only reason that Paxil remained on the market following complaints and evidence of adverse and deadly psychiatric effects was because the manufacturer tried to mask the extent of these risks from both the medical profession and the public, leaving many people – both children and adults – at risk.

A number of legal firms have trained lawyers that specialise in Paxil lawsuits. These legal professionals are fully trained in all areas of drug litigation, and are familiar with the effects and the implications of taking this drug. A Paxil lawyer is therefore qualified to put together a sounds legal case in order to increase your chances of filing a successful lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline.

If you or a member of your family has been adversely affected by Paxil, it is advisable to seek legal assistance as soon as possible in order to maximise your chances of a successful claim against the manufacturer of this drug. There may be statutes of limitation that need to be adhered to with regards to making your claim, and it is therefore important for injured parties to contact a legal representative at the earliest opportunity. A trained and experienced Paxil lawyer can discuss the details of your case and determine whether you have grounds to claim compensation from GlaxoSmithKline. Your lawyer will also recommend the best course of action for maximum results depending upon your circumstances and the potential strength of your case.

You can get a free consultation from many drug litigation lawyers, which means that you can find out more about filing a claim for harm or injury caused by Paxil without having to pay anything. The initial consultation should be all you need to ascertain whether you have a valid case, and your Paxil lawyer can then work on putting together a solid lawsuit in order to maximize on the chances of success and the amount you get as a settlement figure.
