Man To Be Jailed For Drug Theft From Hospital

Added October 30th, 2006

A man is to be jailed after it was discovered that he had been stealing prescription drugs from a hospital. The man, who is from Philadelphia, is heading to jail for six to twelve years after stealing powerful prescription drugs from a local hospital.

Among the drugs that he stole was Oxycontin, which is a powerful painkiller derived from opium, and has become a popular drug among abusers who want to get ‘high’. The drug has become known as Hillbilly Heroin, and has been the cause of a high number of pharmacy robberies over the last couple of years.

Michael Rogers was said to have stolen nearly 60,000 pills in all from the pharmacy at the Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. The total value of the pills means that Rogers could have netted around $1.5 million from the sale of the drugs had he not been caught. He was caught by police in Whitemarsh Township.

One official stated: "What broke this is that this guy took a couple of narcotics and he banged into something in his car and didn’t even realize it. And the cops saw the car smoking and pulled it over, and this guy basically had a pharmacy in his back seat.”
