A man has been arrested in connection with a drugstore robbery where the powerful painkiller Oxycontin was stolen. The robbery was carried out towards the end of July at the Rite Aid pharmacy at Jefferson Davis Highway in Chesterfield.
A significant amount of Oxycontin was stolen during the robbery. Oxycontin is a painkiller usually prescribed to cancer patients and those that require powerful pain management. It is a prescription drug that is derived from opium, and has become increasingly abused by those looking to get high or to make money from selling it on the streets.
The man arrested in connection with the robbery was 21-year-old Michael Fortner, from Executive Drive. He was arrested at his home late last week, and is being held without bail at the Chesterfield County jail. There will be a hearing at the Chesterfield County General District Court.
Fortner was charged on a number of accounts, including the use of a firearm as well as armed robbery.
