Police in Montgomery County are working towards alleviating the problem of prescription fraud by joining up with health professionals in a bid to try and slow down the ever increasingly problem of fraud when it comes to prescription medication. Police and health officials hope that this will help to better target and catch fraudsters and abusers.
Brad Graham, who is in charge of Montgomery Countys Pharmaceutical Unit, stated that he has built up a rapport with pharmacists and health professionals, and that he now gets tip-offs from these authorities to help the force to catch the criminals.
He said: Were trying to develop a good relationship with them so we can feel free to call each other and share information. Theyll call me only here and there, but every time they have its been a good lead.
Graham said that prescription fraud had risen to such a level that it was necessary to develop a specific unit to target this type of crime. In the past year alone there had been around 500 prescription fraud arrests in the area, he added.
