A man from Cherry Hill has received a prison sentence for the illegal distribution of drugs, including Oxycontin. John Lowney, aged 39, was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for distribution of the pills from various pharmacies, including one in Lacey. Following his release after the sentence he will also be on three years of supervised release.
Lowney was charged with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute quantities of oxycodone and hydrocodone in various forms. He also stated that he robbed the Forked River Pharmacy in Lacey, where he took thousands of pills for illegal distribution
Lowney also admitted to robbing various other pharmacies with accomplices, and stated that they would cut the wires to the alarm systems and telephones wires to make their job easier, and would then force their way in to get hold of the pills.
Oxycontin is becoming a major concern amongst authorities, as it has become one of the best known prescription drugs to be abused.
