The World Health Organization's announcement that their International Agency for Research on Cancer division has classified HRT drugs such as Prempro as "carcinogenic to humans". The agency based its re-classification on a number of studies stating that the evidence was more than enough to change the classification from possibly carcinogenic to humans.
This means that medications such as Prempro are now seen as a definite increased risk when it comes to problems such as breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and other health problems associated with hormone replacement drugs. Prempro, manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Wyeth, is one of the most popular HRT drugs.
The drug had already been linked to a number of serious health problems such as ovarian and breast cancer, heart attack, blood clots, dementia, Alzheimers disease, stroke and lupus.
Those currently taking such HRT drugs have been advised to seek medical advice and assistance regarding alternatives before stopping the medication.
