A man, who was found guilty of selling narcotic prescription drugs to a teenager, has been sentenced to eleven years in prison after the girl died from an overdose of the drug. The Missoula man sold the 19-year-old Oxycontin, an opium based painkiller.
Twenty-five year-old Eric Jacobsen pleaded guilty to distributing a controlled substance resulting in death, and he could have received up to 20 years in jail as well as a million dollar fine. He has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison. He will then remain on supervised release for a further 10 years.
The woman, Jessica Lawhorn, died in March 2005 after being found by police officers in her home. Post mortem examination showed that she had died from an overdose of the painkiller Oxycontin. Jacobson was not only her supplier but also her ex-boyfriend, and was charged with the distribution.
Reports state that he sold two pills to Lawhorn and her friend for a total of one hundred dollars. He first took the coating off the pills, according to reports, by putting them in his own mouth to make them work faster when the girls took them.
