Following studies and analysis, researchers have found that many women are now turning to alternative treatments for their menopausal symptoms, and are not consulting their doctors before turning to treatments such as herbal and soy products.
Researchers added that it is in the doctors best interests to learn more about this type of therapy so that they can then advise their patients about the safest option for them. Research was carried out into this area by the Stanford University School of Medicine.
One spokesperson stated: "We're not promoting the use of these alternative therapies. We're just saying that the demand for these therapies is growing and that physicians should be prepared to talk to their patients about it."
Researchers added that the dramatic increase in women taking alternative treatment for menopausal symptoms was as a result of the potential risks and health problems that have been linked to traditional HRT treatments over recent years.
