Woman Filed Prempro Lawsuit

Added August 8th, 2005

A woman from Baltimore has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit after blaming her breast cancer on hormone drugs such as Prempro. Sarah Jones, age 30, is seeking $30 million in damages and has cited a variety of counts on her lawsuit, such as negligence, product liability, and fraud.

The woman’s attorney has stated that this is just one of a number of lawsuits he has filed in connection with Prempro, and that nationally there are around 3,000 cases that have been or are being filed against the manufacturers of this hormone drug. He also stated that tests have proven that the side effects of the drug can be dangerous and even deadly.

Prempro, which is manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Wyeth, was prescribed to Ms. Jones in 1995. However, after seven years of taking the drug she began to experience heavy bleeding and was advised to stop taking the drug. At around the same time a breast check showed abnormalities, and Ms. Jones ended up having to have part of her breast removed.

The lawsuit claims that Ms. Jones was put through stress, pain, discomfort, and embarrassment, and she is also claiming medical expenses.
