There has been yet another robbery at a pharmacy by a man who was after Oxycontin, a powerful opium-based painkiller. Luckily, thanks to the actions of the staff on duty, the man was caught and arrested – and was also implicated in a similar robbery in Mansfield last year.
The latest attempted robbery took place at the Weis Market in Wellsboro. "He walked in and stood at the counter," pharmacy technician Becky Sharp of Middlebury Center said. "I was at one of the stations counting medication. I came over to wait on him. He showed me a gun tucked into his pants. He only pulled it out a little way. He said he wanted Oxycontin and all our morphine."
The man was arrested on various charges, including robbery, carrying a firearm without a license, and illegal possession of drugs. The man was given the drugs that he asked for, and the staff at the pharmacy took note of his car and the route he was taking and informed police. Shortly after the police traced the man and his vehicle, and the arrest was made.
