Recent national surveys and estimates focusing on ADHD drugs have indicated that thousands of children and adults may end up hospitalized every year due to problems with ADHD drugs. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention carried out studies that revealed the extent of these problems after scientists carried out investigations into this type of medication.
Initial findings suggest that over 3,000 people every year end up in the emergency room as the result of an ADHD drug related problem. Two thirds of these involve children and could be prevented by the parents being more responsible when it comes to the use and dosage of the drug, according to researchers.
Other problems associated with the drug have included high blood pressure, accelerated heart rate, chest pain, strokes, and heart problems, and many of the people that end up in the emergency room as the result of taking this group of medications have suffered problems such as these.
It is estimated that over three million Americans under the age of 19 and around one and a half million people aged 20 or over are currently taking ADHD medication.
