A former sportscasters was arrested last week after being found guilty of stealing prescription drugs from a neighbor that suffers from cancer. Keith Ross Mills used to work for WMAR, and he has been sentenced to nine months of house arrest after he admitted to first degree burglary.
The 48-year-old pleaded guilty when his case was heard in front of Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Joseph P. Manck. The neighbor who he stole the drugs from stated that she no longer feels secure after what Mills did, and she said: "I haven't beaten cancer. I'd like to know that I can die at home and pain-free."
In response, Mills apologized to the woman and said that he never meant to make her feel any sense of insecurity, even adding "If I need to move out of my house, I will." He has been fighting a prescription drug addiction for a number of years. When arrested, a number of pills were taken from him including the powerful opium based painkiller Oxycontin.
Mills stated: "I have been humbled by this experience -- embarrassed, humiliated, but humbled more than anything." He lost his job after the arrest, after having worked for WMAT for 18 years.
