The US Environmental Protection Agency has revealed that stronger labelling has been ordered on some asthma medication to reflect the increased risk of side effects, enabling patients and medical professionals to take and prescribe these particular drugs in a more informed manner.
The FDA stated earlier this week that three popularly used asthma medications have had the labelling on them updated to reflect dangers that consumers may otherwise be unaware of. The increased side effects of the asthma medications is that they could actually increase the risk of severe attacks that could prove fatal.
The warnings were initially proposed last year in November, and the three medications that are involved in the revised labelling are Advair and Serevent, both of which are manufactured by the pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, and Foradil from Novartis AG.
The Food and Drugs Administration has also placed a public health advisory on its website stating that the inhaled asthma drugs should not be used until patients and medics have determined that other medications have failed to control the asthma.
