Herbs Could Be As Effective As Vioxx In Killing Pain

Results from a variety of studies performed over a number of years have suggested that there are a number of herbs that could prove as effective as the controversial painkiller Vioxx when it comes to eliminating back pain, but without the deadly side effects that have become associated with the cox-2 inhibitor.

The results come from a review of 10 separate studies, which have been carried out all around the world. White Willow Bark and Devil’s Claw are the two herbs identified as having an effect that could equal the effectiveness of Vioxx and other painkilling medications.

Experts have stated that the herbs are already used in areas of alternative medicine, but have also stated that patients should speak to their doctors before making any switch to herbal remedies from their regular medications. One Australian herbalist stated: "We much prefer people to take professional advice before they start taking them. There's a potential for interactions with other herbal medicines."

Other experts have said that although these herbs may not have the same dangerous side effects as some drugs, there may still be problem to contend with. One doctors stated: "Just because they are 'natural', we shouldn't assume they are completely safe or completely free of risks."
