Lawsuits Over Prempro And Other HRT Drugs

Added March 11th, 2005

Hundreds of women across the nation are already taking legal action against the side effects caused by hormone replacement drugs; side effects such as blood clotting and cancer. Another three women have now filed for action against Wyeth Pharmaceuticals for deadly side effects caused by Prempro.

Three Boston women have been taking the hormone replacement drug for four to five years, and two have developed blood clots. The other developed breast cancer – and all three blame the hormone replacement therapy drug, Prempro, manufactured by Wyeth pharmaceuticals.

A lawyer representing one of the plaintiffs stated: "These hormone drugs were unreasonably dangerous for any long-term use. The defendants promoted synthetic hormone drug therapy without conducting appropriate long-term, clinical trials to support their claims."

The manufacturer of Prempro is being sued for promoting the drug to excessive levels, without first conducting the necessary research and trials to see just how safe or dangerous the drug might be. Wyeth is also being accused of not providing adequate information about the dangers of this hormone replacement therapy drug to potential users, putting them at risk of deadly side effects such as blood clots and cancer.

A study that was carried out by the Women’s Health Institute showed that there was a twenty-six percent higher chance of Prempro users developing breast cancer, and twenty-nine percent increased chance of heart attacks, and the chance of developing blood clots was 100 percent higher.
