Related Health Problems Caused By The Drug:

Some of the effects associated with Lariam use include: depression, hallucination, aggression, psychosis, nightmares and paranoia. However, even more worryingly, users have reportedly lost their minds in some cases, leading to often tragic events. And discontinuing the drug isn’t an instant remedy, as this drug can take a while to clear from the system, which means that the side effects can still be experienced once usage has ceased.

The manufacturer of Lariam, Hoffman-La Roche, made claims that psychiatric problems were experienced by just one in ten thousand users. However, studies revealed that this figure was more like 140 users and not just one. Although thus drug has been prescribed to millions of people, without any side effects at all, it has also been prescribed to people that have suffered its effects. The effects of Lariam raised more concern than even in 2002, when four soldiers using the drug killed their wives within six weeks of one another.

The manufacturer of Lariam, Hoffman-La Roche, makes no mention of any psychotic side effects on warning and labelling. Some legal professionals and others claim that the company is deliberately concealing such information so as not to damage the reputation of the drug and to avoid being caught up in a mass of lawsuits. The drug was approved in the US in 1989, and despite a string of worrying effects the manufacturer still claims that serious side effects are very rare.

Following an increased number of suicides amongst Lariam patients, in 2003 the FDA ordered that all prescriptions for Lariam should carry appropriate warning with regards to possible Lariam poisoning. The possible symptoms of Lariam poisoning are described as: nausea, difficulty sleeping, bad dreams, severe anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations, depression, unusual behavior, feelings of disorientation, thoughts of suicide, and suicide.

For those that feel they may have been affected by Lariam, lawyers are available to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer for not providing adequate warning of a potentially deadly drug. Relations of those that have passed away due to Lariam use can also seek legal advice with a view to claiming compensation. A Lariam lawyer will be well versed in the effects and dangers of Lariam, and can therefore put together a more valid case on behalf of clients.

If possible it is best to go with a lawyer that has dealt with Lariam cases in the past, as he or she is more likely to have access to tools and resources that could increase your chances of a successful lawsuit. Your Lariam lawyer will be able to draw on past cases and experience in order to advise you on the likely success of your case, and may also be able to offer advice on the sum that you could be looking at by way of a settlement figure.

Anyone affected by Lariam should seek medical assistance as well as legal advice. Once you have information to present to a lawyer with regards to a possible lawsuit, an experienced Lariam lawyer will be able to advise you with regards to the best route to take, and whether you should go for a class action suit or an individual lawsuit.
