Defective Defibrillators

One of the leading makers of heart defibrillators is now experiencing some serious problems. In May 2005, it was discovered that the Guidant defibrillator company was making and selling defective defibrillators. These defective models have been sold all over the world to people of various ages. It has been reported that two people have died due to the fact that they had defective defibrillators implanted, unknown to them. It was claimed that these devices failed to work properly at least forty-five times. There are a number of law firms in Canada and the United States who have now launched numerous lawsuits against the Guidant Company stating that the makers of these heart devices failed to inform their customers of the possible problems. It is said that this company also continued to make and sell their products even after they learned of the possible defects.

The Guidant Company has recently recalled over 10,000 defective defibrillators. These devices are supposed to jump-start the heart as needed and without them, people could die. This is a pretty scary thought. Just imagine that you had one of these devices implanted only to find that they may not work as they should. These people are now living in fear that they may die due to a faulty device. The company is working very hard to reassure their customers that it is only certain models that have defects and that anyone who has had the original make and model implanted is safe and that these devices are working as they should. However this is not making their customers feel any safer.

People may wonder what is being done to correct this error made by the executives of this company. In recent months it has been reported that lawsuits have been filed against six Guidant executives. It was also reported that these six people continued to sell more than half a million shares of stock all the while knowing about their defective defibrillators. In addition to these security fraud lawsuits there are a number of other class action suits that have been filed against the company. These lawsuits are being launched by both Canadian and United States law firms to represent those who have been wronged by the Guidant Corporation.

It has been suggested that some people were even trying to sue their medical doctors for recommending and implanting these defective defibrillators. However, these lawsuits did not get very far as it was stated that the doctors were just as much unaware of the problem with each device as their patients were. All medical doctors have been informed of the problem now and have been advised not to give any of these devices to their patients until all problems are resolved.

The Guidant Company is being fired at from all directions and there is some speculation that they will not be able to survive the drop in sales, or numerous lawsuits piling up against them.
